Fish and Beer!

It’s day two and we had a lot on the agenda today!

We started off our day bright and early by going to the Tsukiji fish market in Chūō. The inner market is used by professionals to buy their daily batches of fish, and the outer market is full of small shops and vendors that sell things from fish, to desserts, to knifes and matcha.

First stop: Waygu Skewer

The flavor of this was amazing, but the texture was… less than ideal. We were super excited about this one, so we were kind of bummed it didn’t live up to our expectations. Overall 6/10

Stop 2: Tamagoyaki

still not quite sure what this was but it was very good. It is a cold square scrambled egg on a stick but it was sweet like watermelon or cantaloupe.

Overall 8.5/10

Third stop: Fruit stand/ Daifuku Mochi

One thing about japan is that unless you are shopping at a grocery store fruit is not that easy to come by. Needless to say we were very excited to see this strawberry stand amongst the market. We got strawberries on a stick, strawberry and cream sando, and the fan favorite Daifuku Mochi (pictured).

Overall 9.5/10

Last stop: sushi pt.1

One can’t go to Tsukiji fish market without getting fresh fish, so our last stop was a sushi counter where we got 4 pieces of tuna with all different cuts. If you know anything about mer this is her holy grail.

Overall 12/10

Sushi pt.2

The sushi counter also had fresh salmon sashimi available and we couldn’t resist.

Overall 10.5/10

We ate somethings that aren’t pictured like matcha and matcha ice cream. Here are some more photos from the market.

After the market we were off to shopping around the Ginza area. While we waited from shops to open, we finished our matcha as we sat in a small park. We were investigating the foliage when we had a dangerous encounter with japans public enemy number one…the killer bee. It was giant. This photo encompasses the calm before the storm.

Luckily we left unscathed.

We don’t have a lot of pictures from shopping but our final destination was a store called Gentle Monster. A cool sunglasses brand with interactive art inside.

Safe to say Conner left empty handed…

Our final destination of the day was Shibuya Sky and it was absolutely worth the late reservation. ~50 floors above the Tokyo skyline which includes indoor and rooftop access. We started at the observation deck which was a 360 view of the city and then we made our way to the rooftop which we think used to be used as a helicopter landing zone. The rooftop had a bar, hammocks, and multiple areas to take good photos as it was surround entirely by glass. After our time on the rooftop, we went back to the observation deck and grabbed a drink and talked till close.

Sorry for the delayed post- we were so exhausted and wrapped up in the wonderful day. Anyway, talk later!
